New Best Buy Sale, they have this drive for $149 with a $50 MIR. The same basics of this thread apply if you can get Staples to do it, but they've been killing PMs lately. If you pulled this off, you could get these drives for ~$75-$85 with coupons (get 2 and use $50 off $200, get 1 and use $15 off $75 or $20 off 100). I got mine already, but someone should try this :D

This is not an advertised sale, so you would need the CSR to call your local B&M.

Old deal info is in italics

*****YMMV: See Edit 3 below*****

Here's the deal folks, Best Buy has the Maxtor 120GB 8MB HDD on sale starting today for $119 after $60 MIR. Staples carries the Ultra for $179 with no MIR. As we all know, Staples will price match rebates if they have no competing rebate of their own, which is the case here. :D

Take your 110% of $60 PM and apply a $15 off $75 or $20/$30 off $100 coupon and you can get this baby for $82/$92/$97 + TAX. FREE SHIPPING THROUGH 12/28/02!!!!

BB simply advertises 120GB Maxtor, but we know Maxtor has been phasing out the 2MB versions without changing the pricing on either the 2MB or the 8MB. The reason this deal is *confirmed* to work is BB's website has both the 8MB and the 2MB for the same price. When price matching online, refer to THIS LINK ONLY!!!!. If you don't, they could possibly argue it is a different model. Call, go B&M, through an online CSR, whatever floats your boat. DO NOT LET THEM TRY AND CHARGE YOU SHIPPING AS THIS IS BOTH AN ONLINE AND B&M OFFER FROM BB!!!

Good Luck and Merry X-Mas :D

Chiz

Edit: This deal is in the B&M post-X-mas flyer effective beginning 12/26/02, so this is NOT online only. The ad lists 2 SKUs, presumably for both the 2MB and 8MB versions. Make Staples check your local B&M before giving up! :)

Edit 2: If you need assistance please be discrete about it and use the forums features. Thanks.

Edit 3: This has turned into a YMMV as it seems Staples Corporate has stepped in and squashed this deal. Might wanna try again tomorrow as the 80GB Staples deal appeared dead after 1 day, but was revived the next day. Also, you may have better luck at your B&M.

I only see the 2 meg Maxtor @ BestBuy.com for 180 - 60 MIR ....

so 110% == 112 + Tax .... with the 20 off its 92

mmmm if BB's website had the 8 meg version I would do it ;)

Wow! They musta changed the description in the last 20 minutes or so. I swear it said 8MB when I linked it. Regardless, go by the product number. Very clearly says L01P120 for one version (means 8MB) which goes for $199, $179 "Our Price" before MIR. The other one is L01J120 (means 2 MB) and retails for $179 before MIR. Again, Maxtor has been pricing both versions identically since the 8MB started appearing, so this is not uncommon.

Btw Pillage, nothing wrong with a little RAID 0 to ring in the New Year!! ;)

I realized they changed the description of the page too. I was thinking if we could PM it. ANyway, the product number indicates the drive as the 8mb ones. :)

RAID 0?? :( What do I need 3 120gb drives for?? :(

Hmm so you are right ... But it says 2 MB on the BB website. I tried PM'ing a CDRW a while back and there was a thing on the website that said after MIR, but the price listed on the printout I had was before MIR and they still rejected it. I am guessing they will do the same now. The only other thing I could do is wait till BB puts the info for the drive in an ad and then PM it. I can hope ;)

Whew lol. I ordered the 120GB WD for $199 - 80 MIR, and would kick myself about 1 million times cause of stupidity. Or just order another one.

Its in the BB flyer effective today, the website was linked as easy reference. There are 2 SKUs, presumably for both the 2MB and 8MB version. The website link was changed after I linked it and BB.com is probably exhibiting their usual level of gheyness by obscuring their website. Make Staples check your local B&M stock b4 you give up :)

Shot down :(

The CSR told me they don't pricematch rebates unless they are BB rebates.
WILL NOT match Manu. rebates.

Staples won't price match to it.

Try brining your circular you just got in the newspaper today to the B&M store; or on the phone show them how to access BestBuy's circular. I think they'll PM :D
