i finally got one today. got the c-60 one too. i had an x120e for a bit, and this really honestly feels nearly as fast . only thing is the keyboard is no where near as good. but for $170 or so less, i can be ok with that

did stickers say c50?

i just grabbed 2 and the one i've opened is c-60, too... stickers say c-50...

yeah, stickers said c-50.

my brother got one at a different store, that was really a c-50, but had a 320gb drive instead of 250gb.

I've already replaced the HDD with my spare intel 80GB G2. I did OS reinstall too, as I did not want much of that bloatware.

Ordered 4GB stick of ram too. Will put it in once it arrives.

Was driving by Target today and decided to stop and take a look at this. The display felt so cheap and flimsy I was convinced it was some sort of mock display unit, but the worker there said it was an actual laptop. The touchpad button was unbelievably bad. Are you guys overlooking how cheaply made this thing is because of the price?

That's about par for course when it comes to netbooks I think. I owned a couple Dell netbooks that I thought were pretty sturdy (also more expensive without coupon codes or other deals), but the ASUS netbooks I've owned looked and felt pretty cheap. In general build quality won't compare to a more expensive laptop.

first post at amazon review has info on how to open it, all you need to unfasten is the middle screw under the keypad, a plate in the middle can slide out exposing the ram and the HD. The HD is held there by 4 pieces of silicone rubber, one on each side, just pull out gently.

just got this and love it. mine was badged a C-50 but was pleasantly surprised when CPU-Z said C-60. underload I confirmed it turbo'd to 1.33 GHZ, since this an APU the ATI graphics side also gets a significant bump in performance with the ability to turbo from 276mhz to 400mhz(6290 performance). this thing can play 720p mkvs all day. The battery life on this thing is impressive! It has all the stats you could want in an affordable netbook, imho.

for the price, I don't think it feels cheap at all, the LED screen hinge seems nice and tight and the keyboard and trackpad are decent. yes the trackpad button is a little weird and requires more force then it should, but I am guessing it will work itself in. I usually use the tap method on the track pad itself for most "button" tasks anyway. I didn't thoroughly search for it but my only complaint is no HD light, but there are on screen apps for that....

did the demo have a battery in it? sometimes battery-less demos give an illusion of cheapness since they are so light then...

Relative.

It is $250 unit. All works fine, screen is very good and it has full size keyboard.
Also, it is much faster that hundreds of atom boxes for similar price.

Again, there is a reason why we are getting it for $250 instead of Air for example for 1,250.

I stopped and looked today. Does the lid really have that stupid water droplet ripple or is that only on the display unit? I think that would bother me really bad.

yes that water ripple is there. the plastic is even molded to it. seems kind of weird to me.

i was using mine at my new job today.

one of my coworkers is a 6'10 guy who said "that is the smallest computer i've ever seen" and said he could never use it. haha i think all of us agreed it was build wise, a little plasticy but for $250 it was very well spec'd

should come with a coupon to buy a nissan cube as an accessory...

i bought the thing for my wife and she thinks it's cute... she complained that it's too shiny and show every fingerprint...

but as a netbook it kicks ass for the price... will be even cooler with a $60 ssd...

eh, its just a visual thing to me, doesn't effect adjusting the screen at all...

Why would it matter? All the numbers WEI throws out are mostly BS if you want an assessment of overall performance.

If you're interested in the performance, the only sluggish thing is the Hard Drive. Everything else is well-balanced. The CPU is a lot faster than the Atom N270, the RAM can be upgraded to 4GB, the IGP is more than 10x faster than the GMA 3150, etc.

i think the fact it's dual core is what makes it feel faster than the n270. otherwise, i don't think its number crunching ability is much better. (IE, i doubt it's much better at single-threaded apps)

the better IGP makes it awesome, though. i was playing CS 1.6 on this thing for a bit, something that my eee simply couldn't do.

I agree, I just use them as a general benchmark.

Tough decision, been wanting to hold out for another tablet ( already got the Dell Streak 7 with the Staples deal last month ) but this is such a good deal...

It's close in single-threaded performance and smashes it in multi-threaded performance, but about the only real-world application now that uses one core is audio encoding, and there it's close in performance anyway. Since almost all applications use two cores at least, the C-50 ends up pulling away by a huge margin. The Atoms are competitive as long as they have the same amount of cores; the Atom N270 simply can't keep up even with the C-50, but the Atom N450 is only a bit slower than the E-350.
