Let me say that i am super excited about finally being a member of this forum!!
Now, here's my problem....I recently got a Diamond HD4850 and installed it as soon as i got home with it. Windows booted up and right away recognized the new video card. I then installed the catalyst 8.5 drivers and restarted my comp. But when i opened CCC and tried to change the resolution on my monitor, my computer screen became so corrupted, i couldn't tell what was what on it. I thought no biggie, let me update to 8.6 drivers, so i did. The same thing happens but it happens when CCC loads after the welcome screen. I then tried the hotfix 8.6 with the same results. So then i disabled CCC at startup but when i try to start it after windows loads up, the same thing. So then i thought it was a heat issue. I put a zalman cooler on it and was able to get into CCC after about 5 tries. The temp reads 47C and from there again, i tried changing the resolution and BAM! Screen becomes corrupted again. Last but not least, i bought and installed a Corsair vx550 PSU. That didn't help either!! Sorry for the long post, but i figured you guys would ask me what all i have tried to fix this issue and this is all of it. So when i get home this morning, i am going to try the new 8.7 drivers and see if they are any help. I think my video card is giving out already, what do you guys think?

For what it's worth, I vote that it's the video card. However RMAing it may be a problem, installing an aftermarket cooler usually voids the warranty.

what do u mean when u say its corrupted? what exactly happens? i doubt its the cooler since that wont affect idle performance maybe load perf. if u have an older ATI card try that with the setup u have to c if the same thing happens.

I take it that you are seeing broken graphics right???

1. try another monitor if you have one (could be a bad monitor)
2. Ok go into Safe Mode, and see if you can crank up to the same resolution at which the card was corrupting. Now Safe Mode may not allow you to go that high in resolution, but at least you'll get a reference point.

If both 1 & 2 still gave you corruption, then return it!

when i say corrupted i mean that the desktop goes black, only the names of the icons are visible and when i try to click on an icon, the icon is not recognizable (it's way too pixelated.) Also, when i go to restart the program, i have to do it blind because when i click on the start button the menu doesn't even show. I have tried my old 7900gt and it works fine so i know it's not the monitor. I did some reading today and i read some where that Asus boards with the PEG LINK option in the bios set to auto can cause video corruption on some ATI video cards and I know my Asus A8N SLI deluxe has this option. I work nights, so when i get up tomorrow i will try to disable it and see if that helps any. If not, then i guess i'll have to go buy another 4850. I'll just swap the coolers out and send the older one back to Diamond for a RMA LOL. Then i'll have crossfire!! I will try booting into safe mode and adjust the resolution from there and see if the same thing happens though. I am actually trying to lower my resolution to 1280x1024 after i install the drivers and video card because it's set way too high when the computer first boots up.

solved the problem guys!!! I found out that my anti virus (trend-micro 2008) was causing my problems. I uninstalled it and every game works fine now and no more screen corruption when changing resolutions!!!

Hmm, weird. I had the exact same problem with my MSI 4850. I solved it by using a different port. Does that mean that if I ever went dual monitor the resolution wouldn't be able to be changed on the port that was acting up before?
