DEAD $449 again. Panasonic Lumix LX7 $299 @ amazon, retail $449

I was looking at a couple of cameras, this was already discounted to $429 the other day but I wasnt in a hurry. This wasn't my first choice for a pocketable point and shoot with lots of features, but the first choice is $650.

The ring around the lens is for changing the aspect ratio, a completely useless feature??

It's not programmable like on some compacts, but the ring controls aperture, not A/R. The aspect ratio switch is a slide switch on the lens barrel behind the aperture ring. Having a dedicated hardware switch seems a bit overkill, but being able to change aspect ratio is not necessarily useless - it depends on the configuration of the sensor whether it just crops or uses different portions of the sensor to achieve max resolution in each ratio.


Fwiw, the same price is also available on the Panasonic direct-sales site, as well as the big camera retailers like B&H, Samy's, etc...

yeah, it seems to go up and down. figured since i was buying it at 300 today...id pass it on

Definitely a great deal at $300. I didn't bite when it went down to the same price a week ago, but figured the universe was telling me Buy This Camera when it came back down again and I was still looking.

I don't know if this always happens at this time of year, but camera prices really have been all over the place lately - some good deals to be had if you watch & wait...

B&H had the bare camera for $299 briefly, and I jumped on that, since they're local to me and Amazon collects NY tax anyway. But B&H still/also has a package deal on it for $322 that includes a couple of useful extras. Don't know how long that's going last and it's a little harder to find: when you're looking at the LX-7 product page on the B&H site, click on "Essesntials Kit" and you'll see it.
