Newegg has 1GB of Mushkin 2-2-2 special going for $243.00 This is pretty hot seeing that one 1x512 stick of 2-2-2 special runs for $159.00. ExcaliburPC and MonarchPC have the same setup going for $315.00.

Note...these are BH6 chips not BH5 and should not be mistaken for Mushkin Level2.

I just ordered Mushkin PC3500 for $238 from newegg last night (1GB). It is supposed to do 2-3-3 at 216MHz, don't know what kind of chips it uses but it looks good.
 
This is a prime example of the law of diminishing returns. Nowhere is money more poorly spent in a performance system than in buying performance memory. As long as the memory can run stable at the FSB you need, then the effect of the CAS/RAS on your system's performance is minimal. Much better to spend you dough on a faster CPU or hard drive. Admittedly, people who buy this sort of memory probably already have the fastest CPU and hard drives available.

so true...I ended up buying a pair cause my new system I will build next month will be prime...

i didn't know BH-5 are so rare. if it is so good, why did they stop making it?

i got some corsair XMS3200 twinx 1GB with BH-5 if anyone want some.
 
yeah I bought some Kingston HyperX 3200 memory and regret doing so. I really don't notice a difference at all and I paid $130 for 2x256. My Epox 8rda+, hyperx ram, and locked 2500 can't do 3200 stable. Actually, it wont even boot

Because it was not that popular so Winbond decided to move to the smaller die process which produced inferior modules (CH-5) but is cheaper to fabricate.

True about the rating, 1000 / 5 = 200MHz and 1000 / 6 = 166MHz, but the ratings on all memory chips are a loose guideline as to hint what their capability is. Many times memory will reach much higher clocks and tighter timings than intended, especially with greater voltage flowing through them.

In BH-6's case, it is able to go very high, higher than CH-5, and with Ras-to-cas delay at 2 which CH-5 has problems with but subsequently offers greater performance benefit than any other timing besides Command Rate 1T. It just needs more juice to get to similar levels when compared to BH-5, and no board comes stock able to supply 3.5v to equal BH-5's ability to go above 250MHz with 2-2-2-5 and 3.2v.

so, does anyone else currently make chips that run low latency at medium/high speeds?

AMD has said that they aren't considering DDR2 till the end of 2005 or later (if at all). Seems like there would be a small but predictable market for good chips.
 
What chips are in the current Level One Mushkin PC3500 (2-3-3-5) that AT recommends? The Mushkin page says that they are 5 ns chips, but no brand or letter designation. I am using it and it is sweet; but I do like to know as much as I can about what I have.

You can find bh5 all over the place if you know where to look. It's not that expensive either.
If your really hard up just hit some computer shops in town or your local circuit city and
check their Kingston value ram for remarked bh5 chips. I've seen plenty.

i bought 2 x 256 hyperx bh-5's for $140 off of egay as well!
 
I'm glad I bought mine Sunday at $244.00. Monday the price was $285 and today its $315. I heard memory prices were all going up and this memory at all other places I've found is $350 and up.
