Not that surprising that they need someone to decode the lingo. They should just call it slang though.

Its to translate the words into proper English the words on the tapes and wire taps. Those sources aren't always of the highest audio quality, and sometimes you need a linguist or other expert to translate and/or clean up the words. I wouldn't call ebonics a language though.

The translators, being hired in the agency's Southeast Region -- which includes Atlanta, Georgia; Washington; New Orleans, Louisiana; Miami, Florida; and the Caribbean -- would listen to wiretaps, translate what was said and be able to testify in court if necessary, he said.

I am half black but was raised by white grandparents (old-time language and thought), and I'll be honest I feel embarrassed being on this college campus having having someone stop and talk to me with that strong slang that I honestly have no clue what they're trying to say o_o

Nobody is the slightest bit interested in paying anyone to translate what you say. Anybody with an ounce of real intellect understands that words like 'pseudo-intellectual bullshit' are used by emotionally stunted children who have been made to feel intellectually inferior and seek to hurt some passer by on the inane theory that if they can make somebody else feel worse then them then they themselves will feel better when what they really only do is tip their hand to expose their inferiority. You have to admit it sure is convienent when everybody in the country can understand everyone else without the need for a translator. English, if you want to live in the USA learn it and speak it.

In our rush to be PC and respect everyone elses culture/rights it seems we may be losing our own.

Almost everything I buy nowadays has a label in both English and Spanish. Kinda ironic, since the most predominant second language in my community seems to be Brazilian Portuguese.

I don't care. Live on the East Coast long enough, and half the people you run into are prattling on @ each other in some unrecognizable tongue. At least here, English is still pretty much mandatory as a baseline because there's folks from literally everywhere. Must suck to live in Miami, where people get pissed at you for not habla-ing Espanol.
