DE Razor wet shaving

I've used an electric for years. No problems with it other than replacement foil and cutters are $40 each. Also recent chatter about DE razor wet shaving has intrigued me so I'm going to take the plunge soon.

Couple of questions. I've heard Feather make the sharpest blades. What brand is the 2nd sharpest? I need a sharp blade because my facial hair is thick and that is why my electric's cutters wear out fast. Finally, what do you use for aftershave to avoid razor burn?

Get a sample pack of blades. You may not want what you think you want. In any case, by trying a few, you'll know for sure. Dunno about after shave. I don't use it.

Wish I could know the joys of an electric razor. My facial hair is too blonde and soft to use one 🙁.

you can get a 100 pack sampler of a bunch of different blades. do it! they are cheap and well worth it.

that's how i found the one i really like

Ok you 3 have convinced me to get a sampler pack. Any sites you recommend for a 100 sampler pack?

I would think soft hair would be easier than stiff hair like mine. I've heard suggestions on shaving sites that some use hair conditioner to soften the facial hair to prepare for shaving. You wouldn't need that step. Also your electric blades would last longer I would think. Maybe its a grass is greener on the other side sort of thing but I envy your soft hair and hate my thick stubble.

I always thought of it this way, coarse hair is like a uncooked noodle. Stiff and can be extended.

Soft hair is like a wet noodle, the film w/ holes just glides right over it.

it's a little extreme of an example but maybe I just had a cheap electric razor.

Yah, that was always my experience. The hair never popped enough to get a close cut.

i am still using the sample pack i bought a couple of years ago. love mah DE razor. /i also keep a beard so they do kinda last a while

I can't stress lotioning your face/neck enough. If I don't lotion my neck for the next day or two, it starts to get pretty tender. Need to lubricate them pores!

This is probably also due to the fact that I had not clean-shaven for several months up until a month ago 😉

Evaluate the blades only after you have the hang of shaving. Meaning, when you first start shaving you will cut yourself and your experience will be less than pleasant. You will think the blade is to blame when it's just beginner technique.

Learn how to shave first. Once you have technique and can shave without cutting yourself is when you should start discerning the differences between blades. Then you can pick your favorite blades and see which one works better for your beard.

I thought that was the type of face electric razors worked on!

Me, in the last 35 years or so, have tried a few electrics, from norelco, braun, panasonic, and have never ever been satisfied. I have thick black hair and these have never given me a close enough shave. Ever. I stick to way expensive fusion blades but am considering going back to single-edge razors as those have always given me the best closest shave.

I use just a simple Neutrogena aftershave lotion for sensitive skin post-shave and Dove for Men sensitive face lotion for the days following.
