DDS 4 and NTBackup - No Go

Hey, just wondering what people's experience with W2K server's NTBackup application have been like.
From what I've read and spoken to people about, it sucks ass and is very unreliable.

My situation is as follows:

Trying to get a Dell DDS 4 Tape Drive to function with NTBackup.
So far I have had no luck at all, it will not backup continuously automatically.

I've spoken to the Dell support to no avail..

Any help would be great
