Hi,

I've just purchased 256MB of Crucial 1600DDRRAM to add to my existing 256MB of the same in my asus A7M266 M/B. However, when I add the RAM it doesn't seem to detect it in the bios, also if I swap my existing DIMM for the new one I get a RAM not detected bios post error beep code. Now I know that all this points to a dead DIMM but I have one niggling thought. When I got my original 256MB I had a similar (if no where near as lengthy) problem which was eventually solved by reseating the DIMM a few times. My friend said that the pins on new DIMM's are sometimes antistatic coated to prevent damage and this can sometimes cause connection probelms. He also said that by reseating the DIMM a couple of times the coating may be worn away and so the problem disappears also. What I would like to know is if this is true and what is the likely hood of either a dead DIMM or my ignorance in fitting it (I've tried many times and with varying amounts of "force").

Thanks for your time,

Andy
