When I try to watch a movie with media player 6.4 I get this
message MPLAYER2 executed an invalid instruction in
module DDRAW.DLL at 015f:baac62c7.

Is it the dll file causing this or what. Removing and re installing of media player
didn't solve problem. PLEASE HELP.

Just a guess but I think ddraw.dll might be related to Direct Draw. Try reinstalling the drivers for your video card.

Media Player 7.1 is the latest and greatest. You may want to go get it from Windows Updates. The file may just need to be reregistered, or possibly another program replaced your existing file with a non-Microsoft version.

I would try to upgrade to 7.1 and see if it fixes your problem.

I think I've narrowed this down to a cab file problem.
When I tried to install media player 7.1 I got an error
message about the cab file. Now my question is how
do I repair my cab file ? I'm leaning towards reformatting
but I don't want to loose my at&t files for internet.
Can anyone help or tell me which at&t files I need to save.
Its been almost a year since my last format. Thanks

The "cab" file problem could be one of two things. Most of Windows programs come with "cab" files. So, it's quite possible that Media Player 7
is using its own cab file to install. Cab files are just compressed packages which contain several files apiece, not unlike Zip files. Cab files are Microsoft's own format of compressed files. Anyway, can you be more specific about the particular error you're getting with the cab file?

Now, having said that, I'd say your best bet is to try to install a newer version of DirectX from Microsoft. You can either get it from Windows Update, or get it from Microsoft's DirectX Site. This will install a newer version of ddraw.dll.

Also, when you say "watching a movie", what kind of movie? A DVD? A Divx download?

slikkster: downloaded divx. I get the cab file error while trying to update
directx 8.1, IE 6, or media player 7.1.
RussDogg: reformatting not a problem, I just need to know what files to
burn to cd for my at&t cable internet. Since my @home software is no
longer anygood.

cab error reads like this Extracting file failed It is most likely caused by
low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or a corrupted Cabinet file

I would try a few things. First, run a complete and current virus scan. Secondly, I'm assuming you're using Windows 98. Go to your c:\windows\temp folder and delete everything you can in there, even sub-folders of that folder. Also, check autoexec.bat and see if you're setting your Temp and Tmp variables, like "set temp=c:\temp" and "set tmp=c:\temp". If you are doing that, make sure there IS a c:\Temp folder. If you're not doing that, it might be worth a try to create a c:\temp folder and set your "temp" and "tmp" variables to it.
Also, try unchecking "DMA" for your hard drive in Device Manager.

slikkster: McAfee 6.0 says the box is clean. Yep win 98 SE. c:\windows\temp
deleted everything reboot = no change. c:\temp deleted everything reboot =
no change. Unchecked DMA reboot = nochange. The autoexec.bat is empty,
I didn't add anything because of the existing temp folders. I don't see a tmp
folder. Should I add one? I really don't see the point in doing that since there
are already 2 temp folders.

Any other suggestions? and THANKS for taking the time to help!!
