For my new PC, I ordered the new Corsair DDR467 RAM and the Asus P4C800 Deluxe mobo.

My question is - do I ONLY get the benefit of this faster memory if I overclock the memory bus?

Also.... how do I OC the memory bus? I have never OC'ed before.

Thanks

Yes, you'll need to OC your memory bus... you'll have to turn off all the automatic crap on your board... read the instruction manual when you get it. Although I think my memory speed only goes up to 400 in the BIOS... maybe that's because I have 400mhz DDR? I dunno.

you'll need to set the A1 overclock tuner to manual & you'll then see the overclock fsb option!

ok... so to use the DDR467 basically I have to OC the FSB from 800 to 933 (right?)

Now will my CPU be fine or do I have to mess with that too? (P4 3.0C)
Do I have to OC anything else as a result?... i.e. graphics card etc.

Oh ya... I saw it mentioned that the memory should be 3-4-4-8 - does that sound right?
I think I have a pretty good idea how to set that...

Thanks

Well, ya see, your actual FSB is 200mhz... quad pumped to 800 mhz. So you're adjustments will have to be to the 200mhz external clock speed of the cpu. So you'll want to clock that up to 233mhz... that way when it's doubled by the DDR technology, it'll be 466mhz... and then when doubled again by the dual channel whatchamacalit, it'll be... *math math math* 932mhz. Also consider that when you raise that external clock speed, you'll be raising your CPU speed... since 3.0ghz is 200x15... you'll now be doing 233x15, or 3,495 mhz.... Some people claim to hit that speed w/ stock cooling... but if you don't want to endanger your CPU, you should prolly go with some kinda really good cooler. On the upside, you're computer will be running pretty darn fast.

Also, I'm not sure if the FSB setting is indepenant from the CPU External clock setting... but it's pretty much useless to change the RAM one if you don't change the CPU one, assuming they're seperate. I haven't noodled w/ overclocking mine... I have Corsair TwinX3200LLPT (2x512). But I can run it at 2-2-2-5 w/ no problems. Because of the higher mhz rating of your ram, you won't be able to achieve both tight timings and high frequency.

thanks

Just make sure you have good airflow, and try the retail heatsink they are pretty good, if you are having problems then look into another heatsink.
