Hello all,

I just received 2 sticks of Geils ddr400 (256mb) from newegg. Quick question, the item description said it was DDR400 CL=2.5-6-3-3.

I received one like that and the other one was labeled as CL=2.5-8-4-4.

Its been a while since i remembered what the timings stood for and what was and wasn't good, although i'm assumign lower is better in this case...

My question is, did newegg stick me with a piece of crap on the second one? i.e. should i have it returned and replaced?

TIA

That's really strange. I assume you put one item in your cart, then changed the quantity to two?

Yeah, send it back, they sent you worse stuff on the other one.

yeah, added to cart and changed to 2...

that ticks me off, now i gotta waste my time, my sister's time, and my shipping cost to get a replacement for their screw up...

thanks for the verification.

yeah, but you should be able to run fine on one stick of 256 until you get your replacement. don't sweat the small stuff ;)

You could probably get that later stick of ram to run at the same timings no prob...

Up your Vdimm (2.8v) and see what it does...

I highly doubt your sister will be overclocking ;) So even if you slowed the first down you will be ok..

But it's all moot, they sent you the wrong stick.

i'm checkin newegg and they dont have the slower timed DDR400.....check the label if its for a higher speed, you might be able to run it the same speed/timings as the 2.5-6-3-3

I found the below post from a different site, it seems to point to the same thing, but i don't understand Geil's answer to this, (not enough english sentences)...
you're right in that my sister's not overclocking, and quite frankly she'll probably never know the difference, but i don't like feeling like i've been cheated :)

I'll put the system together and see what happens...

in the mean time, anybody understand what they're tryign to say in the bottom part of this quote?

TIA

i bought these 2 sticks off ebay of geil 3200, they are 512 mb sticks, came as a pair in a dual plastic box, have blue heat spreaders, your standard fare memory. the stickers on them say DDR400 CL=2.5-6-3-3 and go on with where its made, date and such. I belive it to be thier Value series but not too sure. Anyhow, I dropped them in my MOBO and being lazy I just say use SPD, the timings are not what it says on the sticker or what the guy said on ebay that sold it to me. I get in CPU z CL=2.5 and then down the list 4 4 and 8????? in the bios it also shows 2.5 4 4 and 8 now im confused, this is honestly one area that I have not been able to understand is memory timings and settings etc......... so i go to geils website and look up thier products and the closest thing i can find to this memory visually is the Value series, wich makes me belive thats what I bought. Any how im looking around in there FAQ and i came up with this

Q: Why GeIL burn the spd is 2 6 3 3 or 2.5 6 3 3 in the single channel,but in the dual channel is conversed 2 8 4 4 or 2.5 8 4 4?
A: The Spec of Geil Memory is followered byJEDEC spec.So Geil burn the spd is 2 6 3 3 or 2.5 6 3 3.In the single channel is fine. But in the dual channel is conversed 2 8 4 4 or 2.5 8 4 4 .So in the nvidia and intel chipset is both conversed SPD.
