ok i'm getting confused about the whole DDR400 thing. this is what i know so far:

1) DDR400 has not been officially approved as an industry standard yet.
2) i've heard in a number of places that it is not readily available and on sale to the end user yet (only avaiable to hardware reviewers and such).
3) DDR400 = PC3200
4) AnandTech's latest mobo/memory price guide shows PC3200 memory on sale from XtremeDDR.

if people are saying that users won't be able to use DDR400 with their new SiS648 chipsets until well after the mobos hit the market, then why is DDR400 on sale? (and it isn't b/c the new SiS648 doesn't officially support it...its been shown by a few reviewers now that the chipset does work with DDR400)

DDR has to conform to standards set by JEDEC. IIRC, their latest approved standard is DDR333/PC2700, which means that any RAM you see for sale that's rated higher than PC2700 is probably just RAM that conforms to the PC2700 spec, but is rated by the manufacturer at higher speeds but since there is no JEDEC PC3200 standard, its not "official" PC3200 RAM. There probably won't be any "official" PC3200 for a few more months.
