DDR4-4600MHz ? Wow. What's the fastest memory that you can use with the new AMD2200/2400G CPUs?

I'm probably getting ahead of myself here in terms of how much money I want to actually spend. But I'm just very curious about things. I just bought a new AMD 2200G CPU with an ASRock AB350M-Pro4 AM4 motherboard and the description on NewEgg says the fastest memory speed it can overclock to is 3200MHz. However, it does show a plus sign (+) next to that. So, does that imply 3200MHz memory and above? What's the fastest memory speeds that could be used with the new AMD 2200/2400G CPUs in a stable manner, keyword, stable?

This is kind of a related question I guess. Does the maximum theoretical TFLOPS these new CPUs are capable of increase with memory speed or is that capped by something else? If I can increase TFLOPS as I increase memory speeds that would be very cool. Almost eliminating any need for a discrete graphics card if the memory was fast enough.

I'm also thinking that there might not be much point in having memory that is any faster than the CPU itself. So for a 2200G maybe 3600MHz memory would be just about right?

The reason they list the "+" is faster memory is always coming out, and support being added with BIOS updates (to improve stability, add support etc). The official RAM speed from AMD is 2933, so anything over that is technically overclocking, but it's usually not a problem to use faster RAM.

The problem with going with RAM above 3600 (or even 3200) is the price starts to get prohibitively expensive, and at that point it would probably be cheaper to buy some "slower" RAM and a low-end dedicated GPU. Plus, you will eventually hit the point of diminishing returns as you scale up, and the performance difference will largely be negligible. If I were going to build using that APU, I'd probably personally go with DDR4 3000 - 3200 with tighter timings (cas 14 or cas 15). Here is a mini-review on memory scaling on the 2400G:

Since stability is important, you probably want use RAM on Asrock's QVL, or use the RAM manufacturers "memory finder" tools on their respective websites. Otherwise you can also find posts on what other people are using, and go with it.
