From what I have seen (when I bought DDR3L for my laptop), DDR3L works at both 1.35v and 1.5v. So as long as it is compatible with the motherboard, it should automatically use the correct voltage.

Yea, this has some to do with what your board can/will do and which model L you buy. some L's will run at 1.5.

jedec saw this situation ahead of time and have required that the low voltage stuff operate at the higher voltages without becoming damaged. You'll be ok

Many have two XMP profiles with both voltages.
