Hi all, I'm in the market right now for a new motherboard, cpu, and ram. I'm pretty sure what I WANT to get, but I'm not 100% sure that it will all work and I was hoping that you guys could give me some insight into this.
I want to be able to overclock a P4 1.6a as high as possible using some DDR333 ram. I also want to run a RAID-0 with 2 60GB IBM drives that I have. Now the motherboard that looks the most appetizing is the Abit IT7 Max2 which is due to come out anytime now, but the problem is that it runs on the Intel 845E chipset, and from what I have read in reviews I have read nothing about it being compatible with DDR333 memory. What exactly does this mean? If I stick PC2700 in there is not going to work or something, do the motherboards not have the ability to run at those high of FSB speeds, or is that they don't have the right dividers to allow the Video Card and stuff to run at the correct or close enough to correct speeds.
So if this is the case and I have to rule this board out what is my next best bet. From what I have seen if this is the case then I would have to look into either one of the SIS 645DX motherboards or one of the new SIS 648 motherboards. The problem I see here though is that these boards are usually considered lower end ones so they don't usually come with as many trick features as the 845E boards do, such as in that they don't come with RAID. The only SIS 645DX board that I saw that came with RAID was the MSI 645E Max2-LRU; the problem with this board seems to be that it doesn't allow for high enough voltage settings. Has this voltage thing been fixed with a BIOS update yet? I'm a little hesitant to go this route though with the 645DX chip no matter what though becuase of the new 648 chip coming out that has some really cool features like support for DDR400, AGP 8x, and Serial-ATA.
Also, since I just brought up Serial-ATA, does anyone know when these Hard Drives are going to start appearing on the shelves? And looking even more into the future, how far away are the new 64-bit processors (or at least the ones that are going to be affordable)?
Thanks for all the help you guys, and sorry about the length.
