DDR3 RAM Recommendations

What's some good DDR3?

I am looking at upgrading my CPU to a E8500, which means I need new RAM and a new motherboard as well. I am going with the EVGA nForce 790i Ultra as that seems to be a very good board, but I'm not sure what to buy for RAM.

I'd like something with good performance and preferably not ungodly expensive either.

I found the following on Newegg which is right in my ideal price range: Link

Is this good RAM? The timings look good to me, and the price is significantly cheaper than a lot of other 2x1GB sticks with higher timings as well. I read two reviews. Review 1 said it had excellent performance and no problems until they tried to OC it so much as 1 Mhz then got all sorts of blue screens of death, and Review 2 said it performed excellent and OC'd very well.

Thanks in advance

The vast majority of users aren't moving to DDR3 yet, so the number of people who could give a truly informed opinion is pretty small.

Are you using two graphics cards? You said you picked the 790i because it looks like a good board, but if you're only using a single graphics card it's really a poor choice for the money. (Especially when you consider the price of DDR3 relative to DDR2.)

I've got 2 9800gtx's on the way (I know the 9900 is coming soon, but I expect it to have large problems being the first dual core GPU).

I could get DDR2.. lower latencies, but DDR3 seems to outperform it, from what I've been seeing anyway.

I haven't seen much to that effect. Have a couple links?

Here's a few I could find... I saw some that compare 7 CAS 1800mhz DDR3 vs DDR2 1066 which showed a decent improvement with DDR3 and another which plotted 1066 Mhz DDR2 vs DDR3, the DDR2 was slightly faster due to timings, but not much but I can't seem to find either at the moment

From what I've been seeing the general rule is DDR3 over 1500mhz will start to show improvement even with 9cas DDR3, and usually 1333mhz will show improvement, but you are certainly right in that the cost vs improvement is minor.

Part of the reason I'm considering DDR3 is also so I can get some use out of it in the future perhaps.

Another question, am I correct in saying outside of Vista there is no difference between 2 and 4gb, taking into regard the 2gb per process limit that all 32-bit OS's use except Windows 2003 server, and the fact that XP will keep 512-1024mb of RAM for system processes....
