The 66/100/133 MHz Single Data Rate (SDR) SDRAM is usually just referred to as SDRAM.

DDR SDRAM was the next step, and generally it's referred to as DDR, however some people will refer to it as DDR1 if they're contrasting DDR and DDR2.

DDR2 SDRAM was next, it's pretty much always just referred to as DDR2.

DDR3 same story as DDR2.

Only other thing to keep in mind is notebook (SO-DIMM) vs. normal desktop sized DIMM.

If this is for a notebook then you need to make sure you get SO-DIMM memory, and you should be making sure the memory you getting operates at the standard voltage and doesn't need a voltage that is non-standard (which is common with memory now). There are lots of notebooks that do not like memory which needs more than the standard voltage, that being 1.5v I believe for DDR3.
