DDR3: Does CAS latency really matter?

I've got 4GB DDR3-1333 @ 8-8-8-24 (Gskill DDR3 4GB kit). There was an instant rebate when I bought it which brought it down ~$20 from where it is now. Unfortunately I need to RMA my memory & I'd like to buy more to keep my system running while waiting for a replacement.

Do you think it will make a measurable difference if I add some other brand of memory at 9-9-9-24 instead of getting more of this Gskill 8-8-8-24 stuff? Seems like I could save $15-$20 by just getting a different brand...

Ideally, you don't ned to mix different brands if you can avoid it. When adding more memory, the best option is to add more of the EXACT same memory you have.

I've honestly have had very little problems mixing ram brands and such. I've built hundreds of computers and have rarely had that problem.

So I wouldn't really worry to much about problems related to brand/timings/ect... But there is always some possibility I guess. 🙂

I believe keeping the same stick models/brands would be best, as their SPDs would be identical, so you should at least not have any compatibility/stability issues from different kinds of memory. With mixed sticks, it would be a crapshoot. Of course it could work, but then it could not.
