Hey guys,
I'm confused by something yet again (big surprise right
)
I see that the X79 SaberTooth has lower memory ratings than either the X79 Pro, WS or Rampage. Seems like its rated as DDR3 1866. The other boards go up to DDR3 2400, but they are labeled as "OC"... meaning overclocking only???
Yet I was browsing the user opinions on newegg and come across someone using the ddr2400 memory on the sabertooth... G.skill customer service even had this to say:
"Glad to hear the memory is working well with your ASUS Sabertooth X79 motherboard. The motherboard was designed with that memory, so you should experience great performance results"
So how can the Sabertooth be designed around memory it can't even run at full speed? I checked and gskills website also lists the sabertooth as supported for the DDR2400 memory.
So what gives? Can you actually overclock the memory to 2400 on the sabertooth? And if so, what makes it different from the Rampage or X79pro, since you apparently need to overclock to reach 2400 for those as well? I think I'm missing someting (again, as usual : )
