question

2 xfx cards 9600 GSO one with 1 GB DDR2 the other with 384 DDR3 is there that much of a difference b/w the 2 especially if it is only for folding.

Only difference between 2 cards is RAM

128 192
Memory Type

DDR2 DDR3
Memory Size (MB)

1024 MB 384 MB
Memory Clock (MHz)

800 MHz 1800 MHz

the original official 9600gso was a rebadged 96sp 8800gs with 192bit bus and 384mb or 768mb of vram. the newer official 9600gso is a 48sp version of the 256bit 9600gt. that 1024mb xfx card is a 96sp version core but its on a 128bit board. ASUS did the same on one of its 9600gso cards. so that means there is really 3 different 9600gso cards not to mention the various capacities and speeds of ram on each version. stupid and quite confusing for sure.

anyway stay away from the 128bit card. 1gb of slow ram would be useless for most things anyway. problem is the 192bit card you are referring to only has 384mb which I have no idea if that matters for folding or not.
