I purchased two new DDR2 modules but when I tried to fit them I noticed that the pin alignment differs from my existing modules.
No matter which way around the slot still does not line up and the new modules will not fit into the mobo sockets.
The existing working modules (paired) are labelled:
2 x Corsair XMS2 Pro Series, DDR2,
CM2X512-5400C4PRO,
XMS2-5400 512MB 675MHz 4.4.4.12,
XMS5402v1.1 0515026-1
2 x Corsair XMS2GB PC54, DDR2,
CM2X1024-5400C4,
XMS2-5400 1024MB 675MHz 4-4-4-12,
1.90V vers5.3 478475 08320360
The new modules are labelled:
2 x HP 2GB 2Rx4 PC2-5300F-555-11-H0
2GB FBD DDR2-667 CL6 RiHS
HP 398707-051 PSF14110614
and the packet is labelled:
4GB FBD PC2-5300 2x2GB kit, Part No. 397413-B21
When I purchased them it did not specify either desktop or server, so I foolishly assumed desktop.
I am wondering if I have been supplied with server modules rather than desktop modules?
Would that explain the slot misalignment?
"Home-built desktop PC"
Motherboard: ASUS P5WD2 Premium
Memory Specs:
Dual-channel architecture
4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support unbuffered non-ECC/ECC DDR2-800/667/533 MHz memory modules
Native DDR2-800 support
Up to 8GB total memory
Supports Intel Memory Pipeline Technology (MPT)
As I understand it...
Memory Module Speeds...
DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHz
DDR2 PC2-5400 667MHz (also PC2-5300, theoretically same as PC2-5400, but 8x667 rounded down by manufacturer)
DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz
