have been investigating DDR2 for quite a few months with a view t find the best performing ram for use in a Pw5WD2 Premium.775/65x.
I require at least a 2Gb kit.
I had 800Mghz 2Gb kits currently to chose from Mushkin, Crucial and corsair. But recently I have read quite a few reports stating that DDR2 that has speeds in excess of 657 is basically not worth it..Is this really the Case!

If this is rue then can someone tell me how DDR2 PC4200 533MHz @
CL 3-3-3-8 would perform opposed to say PC6400 800Mghz @(5-3-3-8) .

I play games but not hardcore, mostly heavy multimedia stuff like Adobe, Video editing, encoding, Authoring and that kind of stuff do need fast ram to do these tings?

This is a major decision cos' I am only going to buy this once and will be in my machine indefinitely as I am only going to send £350+ or x2 once and I want my ram to be able to cope with applications and technologies of now and of the future.
Saying that If Cosair releases their XMS2 xpert 800ul as 2Gb ..that would be nice as they look **** hot.

I have seen the xbit artice a while ago, thhe conclusion is not very enlightening and they were focusng on speed mostly.
This is one of the articles that made me questio the DDR2 speed v latency issue..

"installing faster DDR2 DIMMs isn't cost justifiable, and even gung-ho gamers will find that the extra money pays better dividends if invested in a high-end graphics card. Either way, we recommend a big name vendor, because they invest more in the testing and validation of new products."
THG.

I have seen the same rsults at a few places.

Get the DDR2 533 if you don't care that much. At 533FSB, you will get 4.2 ghz. I don't think you can get higher than than on air.
