ddr2 often fails to boot

The past few weeks, I've been having trouble with my 4gb of corsair ram in my computer. I have my e6600 cpu overclocked to 3.2ghz and my memory overclocked to tighter timings of 4-4-4-12 from 5-5-5-18.

The computer will try to boot, but freezes during the memory check and reboots with default factory settings, successfully booting windows. Even when I don't overclock the memory and just change cpu speed the still computer stalls at memory check.

At first, I could fix it by rebooting the computer and overclocking the computer again, but it has been getting worse.

I thought the problem was the ram was not properly seated, so I popped it out and back in and then my overclock seemed to work fine, but then two days later it started happening again and the only way to get it to boot with the OC was to pop out the ram again and pop it back in.

I don't know exactly what the problem is because my settings have been working fine for months and this has just started happening the past couple weeks. I don't know how it manages to boot at all when it resets to default bios settings.

Possibly a bad connection to the motherboard?

My motherboard is gigabyte 965p-ds3
