DDR2 Memory upgrade...

I bought the Dell 8400 a few months ago with 512 MB (2x256MB) DDR2 PC2-3200. I just bought 1 GB (2x512 MB) DDR2 PC2-4200. I want to make sure I set them up right. I have done this upgrade before with older computers so I generally know what I am doing but never with dual channel stuff, so a few questions. I apologize if they are stupid.

1.) Do I put the 2x512MB PC2-4200 in the first and thrid slots that the 2x256MB PC2-3200 are in now and move the PC2-3200 to the second and fourth? Or doesn't it make a difference?

2.) Should I even keep the PC2-3200 in there?

3.) What is a good way to test before and after installation to see improvement? Memtest86?

Thanks in advance.
