So whats the deal on the sudden large increase in DDR2 memory prices? I have seen price increases for 2GB (1X2) kits increase by as much as $100 depending on brand.

The holidays are coming up, along with everyone wanting to buy DDR2 for their new C2D builds.

the companies are excerising their power. there is high deman for DDR2 for Conore as well as AMD and thus, they can raise prices and make more profit. i just hope that prices for DDR lower as well after. i need another 512MB and it is currently 1.5 times the price it used to be.

It's amazing how little is understood about basic economics - supply and demand. There is nothing wrong with it - high prices make up for low prices. It's not greed - just survival in a very competitive area.

I enjoy listening to people claim somebody who voluntarily offered up their cash at the price asked and recieved the goods they paid for is being exploited.

Ya think it may all be about compatibility issues?

I have only found a couple of mem makers that list compatible ram for the g965 chipset.
Both those only listed "value ram".

It's all about the 1.8v spec.

I read on corsair forums a tech saying something about reworking the value select series for compatibility.

heh. everyone is saying this is a no brainer trend. Yet, just a couple months ago hardware sites were claiming that the amd switch to ddr2 would lower the ddr2 price to that of DDR. WHY? Well, because all those factories making ddr ram would switch over to ddr 2 production.

There is a disconnect somewhere :)
