Hi all,

First of all I know that i cannot put DDR3 RAM in DDR2 slot, but the strange thing is:

I used Lavalys Updates EVEREST software to see my PC specification in details and it gave me:

Motherboard
under Chipset
under North Bridge: Intel Bearlake G33 (Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS IPIBL-LA):

North Bridge Properties
North Bridge: Intel Bearlake G33
Intel Platform: Salt Creek
Supported FSB Speeds: FSB800, FSB1066, FSB1333
Supported Memory Types: DDR2-667 SDRAM, DDR2-800 SDRAM, DDR3-800 SDRAM, DDR3-1066 SDRAM, DDR3-1333 SDRAM
Maximum Memory Amount:: 8 GB
Revision / Stepping: 02 / A2
Package Type: 1226 Pin FC-BGA
Package Size: 3.4 cm x 3.4 cm
Core Voltage: 1.25 V
In-Order Queue Depth: 12
************************************

But I haven't DDR3 slot in my Motherboard and the Info upper said that my motherboard support DDR3 !!!!!

Please, Who can clear this to me?
and the other question is:

Can i change the Memory Slots (DIMM) from DDR2 to DDR3 to make the motherboard compatible with DDR3?

Thanks for help.

no

It's reporting on the chipset memory support, not your particular MB. The Bearlake chipset can support DDR2 & DDR3.

Thank you Blain for your reply, But logically if the chipset support DDR3, then I can use DDR3 memory if i have DDR3 slots. (Please correct me if this info wrong with more detail)

Actually my Mobo doesn't have DDR3 slots so the main Question is:

Can I replace the DDR2 slots with DDR3 slots?
If Yes, How? If no, Why?

Thanks

Try and follow...

1. Yes the chipset on your MB techincally supports both DDR2 and DDR3.
2. The DIMM slots on your MB aren't replaceable, since they are soldered on to the MB.
3. If you want to run DDR3, you'll have to buy a different MB.

Techincally, if you have microscopic soldering equipment and access to the specific IC schematics for your MB, along with very high electronic skills and plenty of time, then...
Yes, you probably could swap out your DDR2 slots for DDR3 on your $30 OEM MB.

I really don't like them but there are MOBOs that have both DDR2 and DDR3 slots on the same board. You cannot mix the 2, you can only use 1 type at a time. And, if you are into OCing, the dual support boards typically do not clock as well as a single memory type board based on the same chipset.
