DDR2-800 VS DDR2-1066

Hi,

I'm currently using 4GB of OCZ DDR2-800 RAM (no overclock).

I was thinking of upgrading to 2x2GB of DDR2-1066 (probably Mushkin).

Would I see a performance increase, or would I just be wasting my money? I don't overclock my system at all currently, and mostly play games such as World of Warcraft, Gears of War.

My Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R, the CPU is Intel E6550.

Short answer, is no, you won't see any difference.

Basically, higher RAM speeds only really affects some synthetic benchmarks, and runnings things like SuperPi. Games and other real world programs aren't really affected by higher RAM speeds.

If you do not also increase your CPU speed, you will not see a substantial increase by going from DDR800 to DDR1066. Some bandwidth sensitive applications "might" see as much as a 5% increase. However, if you intend to OC your CPU more and your DDR800 is holding you back, you may see a good increase in performance.

Keep your current RAM. Bumping the speed up isn't going to do anything meaningful for you.
