I'm putting together a pretty basic system out of spare parts as a simple browsing machine for someone and I've got a couple different memory configurations I can go with. I've got 3 1GB DDR2 800 sticks and 2 512MB DDR2 667 sticks.

The board has 4 slots. I can put all three 1GB sticks for 3GB single channel @ 800MHz or use 2 of those sticks and the 2 667 sticks for 3GB dual channel @ 667MHz. The machine is also using on-board video if that makes a difference.

in that era you got +20% from going from single channel to dual channel memory
so i vote for the dual channel. the igp is so primitive it wont be memory starved any way you go :)
