I see that the platform supports a 800mhz FSB but every laptop I have seen or configured always uses 667mhz ram.

Is there a good reason for this, or would it make sense to order a laptop and replace the ram with 800?

If you're talking about the mobile platform - no, it cannot use DDR2-800. You might be able to use the modules and they'll clock back to DDR2-667 speeds.

The maximum RAM speed for the platform is DDR2-667, so it would be pointless to order a laptop and replace the RAM with DDR2-800.

unless you really want to power up that integrated video, ddr2-800 wont help you at all.

it will just drain your batteries faster. 800bus means dual channel ddr2-400 would be enough to saturate your processor's maximum bus bandwidth with memory.
