For my new computer I plan on using the ASUS M2N-E motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131022

And either this ram here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...90&ATT=20-145-590&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r
* Speed DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) *
Cas Latency 5
Timing 5-5-5-12

Or this ram here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145015
* Speed DDR2 675 (PC2 5400) *
Cas Latency 4
Timing 4-4-4-12

I'm not realy sure the extra $30 is realy worth it (I probobly won't overclock anyway)...

Neither one is listed by Asus as tested compatible, so you may want to reconsider either way. The M2N-E seems to be very titchy about memory modules, from the few reports I've read. Just because it's good quality Corsair doesn't guarantee it'll work (though of course you could just exchange it if it didn't).

On the left is says "See what memory Corsair Recommends" http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/par...ch.aspx?partnerid=42&modelid=1534&IDU=

there is a last of Compatible RAM models and what I copied the part #s and pasted on newegg I found both models
http://newegg.com/

Is that "ram guy" reliable?

I can attest to that. The M2N-E is one picky ass mobo. My ram didn't work in it originally. I had to reflash the bios and put in OCZ 667.

Corsair is not specifically testing each of their modules with every motherboard. They are simply listing all their modules which SHOULD be compatible based on the specifications.

The "RAM Guy" is just a Corsair marketing thing, there isn't actually some guy who knows a lot about memory and is being extremely helpful to people looking to buy Corsair memory; it's looks like it's just an account on their forum that their customer service or tech support people all use to respond to posts. The few posts regarding the M2N-E, the RAM Guy responded to questions about compatibility by doing nothing more than slightly rewording a form response, essentially "yes it should work fine, reset the BIOS and set the voltages to blah and blah and blah", disregarding the fact that the board doesn't support the voltages they want, and not really addressing compatibility other than saying it should work because the specs say so.

i can tell you which ram works... I'm running the same mobo right now. the part number is OCZ26671024VDC-K That's 2x512 dual channel kit in 667. You need to flash the bios first.

Most of the issues I have read about come from voltage differences. The regular (non-deluxe) Asus board runs at 1.9v while a lot of the DDR2 800 runs at 2.0v or more. The deluxe board allows you to adjust the mempory voltage from 1.8 to 2.4 I believe which alleviates this issue.

If you get 1.9v RAM you should be fine.

How exactly does one flash the BIOS if you can't get the memory to work?

yeh the bad reprots are related to voltage so if you can find ddr2 800 that is 1.9v or less it should work imo

most of the 667 stuff is 1.8v so... yeh get somthing that fits the voltage of the mobo

im not sure what the difference is besides the voltage and bandwidth

the latency might be less on a 667 set

im not sure of the bandwidth latency trade off

here is a memory set that is 1.9v ddr2 800
