Hello All ----

Just purchased the ASUS P5LD2 MOBO and am confused about the memory specs. It says that it accepts DDR2 667. Does this include both 5300 or 5400? Can anyone tell me the difference between the two types of memory?

Thanks.

DDR2 667 is appropriately called PC2 5300. Companies who call it PC2 5400 simply do not possess the intelligence to do simple multiplication, or they think they can get you to buy their product over another because 5400 is a larger number than 5300. DDR2 667 is DDR2 667. The correct name is PC2 5300, but really, there is no difference between PC2 5300 and PC2 5400.

Thanks! Nice of these companies to confuse the consumer.

Since you were so kind to answer my initial question, any idea why the ASUS P5LD2 MOBO upon bootup states PC4300 for the memory on the bios screen instead of the PC5400?

Thanks again.

Technicaly there is an actual PC5400, which is rated at 675mhz such as these. However, if it's 667mhz ram, then it should actualy be called PC5300. In either case, either will be fine, you can run a ram rated at a higher speed at 667mhz. You could even use 800mhz DDR2 if you wanted to, it would just downclock it to 667mhz.

My P5LD2-VM defaulted to 533mhz even with my 667mhz ram. You just need to go in to BIOS and set it to 667mhz manualy.

Thanks. Which menu option in the bios do I select to change the speed?
