I am thinking of getting GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35. I have a Pentium D 930 and thinking of getting DDR2 1066 4gb Memory. Can DDR2 1066 memory work with this Processor. I know the Motherboard supports the DDR2 1066 Memory. As the Processor is a 800MHZ core.. can a DDR2 1066 Memory or even the PC29200 works then? Please advise.

As far as i understand with regard to the FSB architecture etc, its not the best idea to have too much speed on your RAM lets say, if your CPU can only get to it in x time, so if i were you rather run the speeds in harmony, being DDR2 800 in your particular case, so that your Front side bus and RAM buses run at the same speed, thereby giving it the optimum, i feel that 800 Ram would actually run faster, because dont forget that the RAM is only as fast as the bus or whatever is reading from or writing to it

The 1066 would work fine, but it would be a waste of money. You don't technically need anything faster than DDR2-400 with that processor. DDR2-800 is just about as cheap nowadays, so you may as well use that.

From what I remember you can hit pretty high FSBs on those 930s. Since it is Netburst, you need all the OC and FSB you can get. So, if it will go past 400, the 1066 memory is a good idea. It's dirt cheap too.

And, with the money you save by going DDR2 800 instead of 1066, you could probably get a lower end Core 2 CPU that would perform better than the D930 anyway.

 You must be seeing different RAM prices from me:

2 x 2gb PC6400 $85 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145184

2 x 2gb PC8500, $143 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145197

A $58 difference won't buy much of a CPU. And these are not even the cheapest options. I do agree a cheap Core2 will run circles around the 930.

sure it will run fine

but 1066MHz is kinda overkill , a 20$ AR OCZ PC6400 would do the job just as good.

also I see that at least I am not the only guy who stills stuck with the LOL Pentium D LOL (my PenD 915 200x14 --> 266x14) barely run the same performance as the Core 2 Duo 6300 at default :-/ . Oh well, hopefully as supplies increased in Q2/Q3, price of 45nm chip will be cheaper to my price range :)

$58 would be almost enough money to buy a 2-series Core2Duo that would overclock well beyond anything the Pentium could hope to achieve.

The Celeron E1200 is less than $50.
Get that + a DDR2-800 2x2 GB kit, & OC to 3+ GHz (yes, it's easy), & you'll have performance drastically better than your Pentium D.
