DDR vs SDRAM

I'm using 512MB DDR PC 2100 and compared to my old system equipped with 320MB of PC100RAM, I don't see that much difference. Sure Sandra says its faster, but it takes just as long to encrypt/decode stuff, compress stuff and such.

How much difference is there between DDR and SDRAM in real life?

By the way my computer is used as a productivity and communication system. No games on here and I'm using ATI XPert98

Real performance deltas for the Athlon line of processors lie between 5% and 15% in favour of DDR SDRAM.

The difference is MUCH larger for a Pentium 4 system.

between 5% and 15% in favour of DDR SDRAM and most of that is for games and apps that use high mem bandwith, if your not using any of that you wont see a difference.

I still use Sdram on my Iwill kk266 raid. 🙂

I'm still holding out until 166 fsb boards comes out.

I never noticed much difference when I moved from 384Mb PC100 to 512Mb PC2100 DDR. I always thought that my mobo (which has the ALi Magik chipset) was the bottleneck - I've heard that this my mobo (ECS K7AMA) was a bit slow when it comes to handling DDR memory.

I had a k7ama board with DDR and altho very stable, it had MUCH slower memory performance then my 8HA+ or my k7s5a. I have a friend with a k7s5a and just switched from SDRAm to DDR and was SHOCKED at the difference. The ram was the only thing he changed in the system.

For the tasks you are doing, I doubt there would be a huge difference. You are using mainly CPU intensive tasks, and memory really doesn't come into play that much.
