DDR timing question

how does the DDR timing work? is 2.5-3-3 normal? is there a big difference between 2-3-3? Are there any other timings available? For the average non-gaming system, is 2.5-3-3 ok?
 
I posted something like this earlier ... I asked if 2.5 latency was normal (because that's what my system was running at). I found out that they actually can be adjusted.... I had my Micron DDR down to 2. I'm not sure about the higher latency though like 3+. Mybae someone else can help you with that. However, I didn't notice a difference between 2 and 2.5.
