In the Geforce2 days, a lot of the memory used was DDR SGRAM. These days it is all DDR SDRAM. Is there any performance difference between the 2? DDR SGRAM are usually big and thick chips, maybe that's hwy they stopped using it.

In heavily bandwidth dependent scenes you'll see roughly 5% more real world memory bandwidth to use, which seldom equates to much more then 2% performanace boost.
Latency is seldom a factor for graphics card memory so any improvements there are effectively useless.
SGRAM + DDR isnt exactly a large benefit.
Given the fact that DDR SGRAM costs more, then typical DRAM and is barely reaching clockspeeds of 300MHz DDR at best it's not a very good option.
