I'm building an Athlon XP 1600+ system and I'm trying to figure out what ram and how much to use. Right now I'm thinking 256mb of Crucial PC2100, but what about all the other DDR rams? I see 1600, 2100, 2400 and so on. Also, what are the good brands to buy from stability wise. If it will cost me another $10 to get more stable ram, then I want to do it (I don't plan on overclocking, at least not for a year or two).
Here's my planned system:
XP 1600+
a7v266-e / a7m266 / GA-7DXR (What chipset do you people like btw? I'm leaning towards VIA but 760 looks about as good and cheaper.)
256mb Crucial PC2100
40GB Deskstar 60GXP
Toshiba 16x DVD (keeping from old system)
Sound Blaster Live! (keeping from old system)
Diamond Viper 770 TNT2 32mb (Yeah, I know about the generations of GeForce and Radeon, but this thing is still serving me like the trooper it is)
Antec sx1040b case (400w)
Thermalright SK6 + YS Tech Fan
Using Windows ME (I know about 98se, but I don't have it, so there. I refuse to buy WinXP)
So, what do you people think about the ram, the chipset/mobo and the system in general? Thanks!
