ok, i found this stick of new 512Mb DDR400 ram at my local comp store. It's $49. I think its a good deal but will prices get lower as time goes on?

Not sure what your are upgrading from or why, but if you think it is a good deal then go for it.

If you look at any of the multiple RAM pricing threads here you will notice that most people think the RAM will not go down in price anytime soon and infact these prices are more 'normal' than what we had been seeing previously.

How much RAM do you have now?

What do you use your computer for?

DDR may not get cheaper since AMD and Intel only use DDR2 with their newer processors. As less DDR1 is made, supply disappears and prices stay high.

DaveSimmons is spot on. DDR1 will not got any cheaper. It will go the way of RDRAM. So either get it now, or save your money for when you switch to a DDR2 system.
