ddr ram question

My CPU is T-Bird 1ghz 200MHz FSB, can I use PC2100 with it?
The reason I asked, is because my computer lock up twice while web browsing using opera.

PC1600 memory is DDR designed for use in systems with a 200MHz (100MHz doubled) front side bus. The "1600" refers to the module's bandwidth (the amount of data it can move each second), which is 1.6GB per second. PC1600 is used primarily in AMD Athlon systems and some Pentium III systems.

PC2100 memory is DDR designed for use in systems with a 266MHz (133MHz doubled) front side bus. The "2100" refers to the module's bandwidth (the amount of data it can move each second), which is 2.1GB per second. PC2100 is used primarily in AMD Athlon systems and some Pentium III systems.

I don't see why not. Even with PC2100 ram, you'll probably just be limited to 200mhz fsb, unless you OC it up to 266 =)
I'm not positive, but if the same rules apply, you should be fine.

Is it only Opera that is causing lock ups? And not any other app? If so, I'd use something else then =P

xfactordomine,

Thanks for a confirm. About the lock ups, I am testing it out right now. It might be my NIC, it is in the last PCI slot. But then again, they were no conflict showing in my win2k system manager.
