DDR Ram prices?

When are the prices going to drop on DDR Ram? For a while it was $30 at crucial for 256mb of 2100ddr. Now it is 60+ for the same exact stick. Why is this?

SDRam manufacturers were losing money for awhile there, just getting rid of inventories... So, I wouldn't count on a big drop off any time soon....

Plus, the demand will increase significantly with the new DDR platforms out for the P4 so it doesn't look like it'll fall back down to $30 for 256MB in the near future.:frown:

For a while people were saying it'd be back down in January... this is not the case?

I am in no need of an upgrade... i have a 1.33 with 512mb pc133 ram on an abit kt7-raid. Tnt2ultra though so i do need a new video card.

I'm guessing it will drop some after the holidays. But I doubt you will see it go as low as it was. Hopefully the 512mb sticks come down.

Dont count on it, the prices will start to come down when DDR 333 and DDR 2 start becoming standard. I'd say at least a year before prices drop any.

Dang, a year. That is a long time to wait but i think my system will be able to hang that long, especially if i get a new video card since the processing power is still fine. I cant believe that DDR more than doubled over the past month. I wanted to buy some when it was $30 a stick but didnt think it'd change very much.. I guess i was wrong

Typically RAM prices have gone up pre-Christmas time and typically they have fallen afterwards. I am expecting prices to go down somewhat after the holidays as the fact remains, to my knowledge, that RAM manufactures have not cut production to any great extent. Demand again should go down after the holidays and we should see some price reductions.

This is my take and what I read on CNet News.com a few weeks ago.

Don't complain too much. Anyone older than 16 should remember back in the day when RAM cost in the hundreds of dollars for 16 megs. I will not complain too much about shelling out $100 instead of $50 for 512 megs of ddr.

bigshooter, true enough but I hope prices don't rise too drastically in the next 6 months (my next upgrade window!).

How about $100 for 16 K (16,000) bytes for an Apple ][ back in 1980? Guess that makes me older than 16 (thank God!).

I remember those days. If you ask me RAM has always been disproportionately overpriced when compared to other hardware.
