DDR ram is it backwards compatible

I have a moterboard that can run up to pc2700 / 333mhz ram, can I use a stick of pc3200 / 400 mhz ram ram? If yes can they be mixed together like say PC 100 and 133 on a 100 mhz bus.

You can mix DDR SDRAM with other DDR SDRAM and DDR SDRAM speeds.

You cannot mix DDR SDRAM with SDR SDRAM. Different voltages, different number of pins.
