DDR Ram : Better to use in pairs or single sticks?

Hey all, I have picked my new mobo and RAM but I have used Rambus for my past two systems where you had to use them in pairs and it was better to use higher capacity sticks for lat purposes like 2 sticks of 256 instead of 4 128 sticks for better performance. I am going w\ DDR for the first time so would I be better off with 1 > 512 stick or 2 > 256 sticks, or does it matter in a DDR arrangement? I may want to go up to 1 gig later so keep this in mind. Thx!

If you are using a single channel DDR board such as 845D/E/G/PE, use one stick. If you are going to get a Granite Bay, two sticks.
