HCD/DDR-266
64MB/Micron Chip USD $ 130 In 1 weeks
128MB/Micron Chip USD $ 250 In 1 weeks
64MB/Samsung Chip USD $ 120 In 1 weeks
128MB/Samsung Chip USD $ 230 In 1 weeks
256MB/Samsung Chip USD $ 460 In 1 weeks

ripped from Harcocp (thanks kyle)

(& fkloster thought rambus was expensive...I thought you guys told me that this stuff would be reletively (sp) in line with SDRAM pricing? not 28% higher?)

It looks high only because SDRAM has dropped sharply in the past month. It's still tons lower than RDRAM when it debuted.

That is the most expensive pricing I have seen for any yet. I'm sure it will be way cheaper than that.

It's simple supply and demand at this point. Once production is ramped up, it will be only a little more than SDRAM. It's like all new technologies when they come out: way overpriced for the performance they give, but once production begins to ramp up, the prices fall drastically. Just look at Rambus! It is still way overpriced for the performance though:p

Damn that's expensive compared to how cheap SDRAM is right now... I can get 256mb for under $150... this sucks, waiting so long for DDR... and they come out at these prices??? WTF??? You guys think I'll get better performance by getting 512mb of PC133 rather than 256mb of DDR (266)?

Yes, please don't worry. I think you'll just have to be patient, that's all. Besides, do you REALLY want a first generation DDR board? Nah, wait six months.

Well, I already started aquiring parts for my system I'll be building in December/January... and was thinking on making it a first generation DDR system... but at the current prices of PC133.. I might just pick up 512mb of that stuff instead.. DAMN!!!... anyone have a good Thunderbird motherboard to recommend? I haven't been following up on that stuff... Only been reading up on the DDR motherboards... can they run normal PC133 too???

DDR-SDRAM requires a 184pin slot and 2.5v of power vs. a 168 pin slot and 3.3v so you cannot interchange memory. I don't know if a hybrid board is possible.

I remember a little while ago, some motherboard manufacturer announced a hybrid mobo. Can't think of the name but it had support for pc-133 and pc-1600/2100

dcdomain,

NO. DDR memory slots will NOT be compatable with SDRAM... Lower voltage, resulting in a different pin, socket configuration... HOWEVER! MOBO manufacturers are saying they will have boards with "BOTH" memory type slots on them... (like the old VX boards with 72 pin and 168 pin)

You won't be able to use both types at the same time.

Also, if you run SDRAM on them, your memory bus will only be 100mhz (or 133 if you use that)...

Actually, yes- VIA and ALI chipsets will supposedly support both DDR and SDR.

They will have 2 slots of each (much like old S7 boards had SDRAM and EDO onboard).
