I read in a review at x-bit labs that Apacer will be manufacturing DDR sticks rated at 166MHz (333MHz DDR) in April. Hopefully the the new VIA chipsets will turn out to be stable enough to take advantage. At CL2 the performance benefit should really allow DDR to pull away from overclocked SDR.
On another note, I was wondering if anyone had any throughts or info on the upcoming Palominos. I'm betting the mobile version will be very similar to the original K7 core and designed to minimize on the transistor space to keep the package small and cool. The server version will incorporate a new cache design that will most likely contain a completely new branch predictor. This could give it a significant performance improvement(~5%-10%) over the Thunderbird clock for clock. The desktop will as well.
