I came across an interesting article talking about an improved Beta version of Sandra that truely take advantage of SSE, SSE2, 3DNow!, etc. And using this new Sandra, the Athlon got 1.6GB/ps of bandwidth, while P4 got 2.0GB/ps (using PC2100 and PC800). The interesting thing is that the Athlon is using 77% of the possible 2.1GB/ps, while the P4 is using only 64% of the possible 3.2GB/ps, here's the link, I suggest reading it.

Interesting article. I knew RDRAM had more latency than DDR, so it's not entirely surprising. I wonder when this new memory bench will be available to the general public?

<< While there have been SSE2 STREAM versions in Sandra for the P4 since Sandra 2001, these were disabled as there was no equivalent for the PIII/Athlon/Duron >>

With AthlonMP now supporting SSE2 it would seem this is not a totally acurate way to test ALL platforms.

mastertech01: Actually, the AthlonMP supports SSE, not SSE2.

Edit: Proof

kuk is right...and there are very few boards that actually support it yet too. The Tyan duallie and the MSI K7Master are the only ones I know of right now.
