DDR in notebooks???

I haven't even heard of Thunderbirds in notebooks, and I don't think there's any other processor right now that can take advantage of DDR other than the Pentium IV, but Intel seems to be going the RDRAM route..

Don't know when it's coming but DDR uses less power than conventional SDRAM. Prelimary tests are alone the lines of 40% less then regular SDRAM.

no I don't know any release dates for this, but I know one company is releasing a DDR based chipset for the notebook: ALi. when other companies will follow suite is another question, but it's going to happen, since DDR SDRAM uses less voltage, and provides a speed boost as well, whereas Intel's DRDRAM creates a fair amount of extra heat (don't know about the power consumption though) over what todays SDRAM does.

Doubtful, although maybe one of VIA's Apollo Pro 266 (for the Pentium III) could be used in notebooks. Plans for the Pentium 4 and the T-Bird to get into notebooks are still at least a few months away, AFAIK. Notebooks just got to 1 GHz, something desktops have been at for a year now. Or do notebooks need special chipsets?

wasnt there an interview with someone from AMD that said it was a possibility? because ddr uses less power or whatever

not only does ddr use less energy (like 2.5V vs 3.3V for sdr), but you can also run it at half the pin count, so it could be 32 bit wide ddr instead of 64 bit wide sdr. this saves space, which is at a premium for notebooks, of course. intel would be wise to come out with a notebook chipset line to complement their new notebook-only processor design, which should use a ddr or qdr fsb to require less pins as well.
