I'm pretty much building a new rig and I was wondering how effective/useful DDR heatspreaders really are. I want my box to be quiet but cool as possible as I just got me a 1.7 tbred + Abit nforce2 board so of course I'll be overclocking it. I have to.
So basically I'm buyin up coolware trying to keep it as cool as possible - fans, hd coolers, etc. I've got a couple panaflo case cooler fans (the high volume ones - still only 32 dbA), an Alpha 8045 with a Vantec Stealth for my HSF, and a Vantec dual fan hd cooler for my new Maxtor 80gb diamondmax.
What I'm wondering is if I should pick up a DDR heatspreader for my new stick of pc2700 DDR. Are they that effective? My friend who recommended all that other stuff said that they aren't necessary. I'm trying to be budget conscious as well, so I don't want to go overboard spending. Are heatspreaders that necessary??
