DDR Dual Channel Memory Question

Hey, i have got a pretty descent pc at the moment but i am looking at upgrading my memory. i have 2 x 256 kingston dimm's running dual channel and i was wondering if i can run 4 x 256, still running dual channel? i did try with some cheaper ram (hynix) that i had lying around but it wouldnt work, windows didnt like it very much (sometimes the pc wouldnt even boot up). i do think that was because of the cheaper ram running with my kingston ram but id like to know what you think before i order more kingston! thanx in advance 4 ur time.

Check the mobo documentation. It should say which configurations are supported. As cheap as RAM is now, I'd just get 1GB (2x512) for around $80 and be done with it.

I agree with CalvinHobbes. I tried to save a little money by using 4 DIMM's instead of 2 and it ended up being a waste of time and money.

Looks to me like you will have some timing limitations if you use 4 DIMMS. This is from your motherboard manual:
"When modules are inserted in DIMM 1 and DIMM 3, the SPD must be 2T for better system
stability."
