CRUCIAL
256mb DDR / PC2100 / Unbuffered / Non-Parity

$33.29

MUSHKIN
256mb DDR / PC2400 / Unbuffiered
Case 2-3-3 @ 300mhz

Question: Is it worth almost double the cost to go with the Mushkin PC2400 DDR ram instead of Crucial PC2100 DDR ram ?

I'd go with the Crucial, it's solid and still overclocks very well. No need in paying twice as much for the Muskin...

I've got 3 sticks of Crucial doing 160mhz @ CL2 with the most agressive timings...don't waste the money on Mushkin..

PC2400 @ 2-3-3 means that the vendor guarrantee the RAM to work at 150 MHz memory bus at CAS latency 2.0. Mushkin will replace the RAM if it does not meet this spec.

PC2100 @ 2.5-3-3 means that the vendor guarrantee the RAM to work at 133 MHz memory bus at CAS latency 2.5. If you OC and it works, all power to you. If it does not, tough luck.

insane3d got 3 sticks of Crucial doing 160mhz @ CL2. I got two Crucial which are limited to 143@CL2 and 148@CL2.5. The quality of Crucial varies. It is up to you to decide whether the double price for 150@CL2 guarranteed is worth it. You may win if you gamble with Crucial, or you may lose.

I also got one stick of Infineon PC2100, 512MB. It does 3 MHz better than the Crucial in OC, but still not PC2400 like the Mushkin.

it also makes a huge difference what mobo you have, and how you set it up. i.e, FSB settings, voltages etc.

big fan of Mushkin, but is your asking about bang for the buck, then I'm gonna have to vote for crucial

Unless you plan on doing some crazy o/c, another vote for crucial. Then again, I've never bought anything but.

CRUCIAL!

Mushkin is overpriced IMHO... I have a stick of Rev2.

doesn't do any better than Crucial CL2 for half the price...

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I have a lot of Crucial PC100 and PC133 but was wondering about the DDR stuff.

Looks like Crucial it is.
