DDR Compatitbility with Intel 865PE Motherboards

I'm planning on transfering my 2.53 ghz Pentium 4 Processor over to a new motherboard that supports DDR Ram instead of the RDRAM that I use now. I'm planning on getting a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-8IPE1000G Socket 478 Intel 865PE ATX Intel Motherboard ). While reading the online manual, I came across a section that stated that since my processor only had a 533mhz front side bus, that it only supported DDR 266 and DDR 333 memory. I wanted to get DDR 400 memory though.

I was wondering if I could still get the DDR 400 memory and it would just revert back to the DDR 333 speed, or whether the memory wouldn't be compatible at all with the motherboard chipset. I would much rather get the DDR 400 since it's about the same price on NewEgg, and it would allow me to take advantage of the speed if I choose to get a new processor with a higher FSB in the future. If anyone has any insight on this, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't see it being a problem. DDR400 memory is fully capable of running @ 333MHz.

Yeah I know memory is backwards is compatible with most motherboards; I just wasn't sure if that was the case with the 865PE chipset.

No problems at all with the 865 chipset. Your DDR400 will run fine at 333MHz on those boards.
